Q & A with Annely...

How has APU transformed you?
Before coming to APU, I was in a difficult season of life. Moving from Illinois to California was a transition that stretched me as a person, and God used APU to change my life completely. Friends, campus pastors, and professors created a culture of community and faith. They pushed me to discover what it really meant to follow Christ and to pursue my purpose through my education and my relationships. The growth I went through during my year and a half at APU showed me God’s redemption and provision over my life.
Which activities at APU have you most enjoyed being a part of?
Serving with Mexico Outreach was one of the highlights during my time as a student. I went from going on service trips to interning in their office during my last semester. Mexico Outreach offered a community with like-minded individuals who had a passion for service and people of other ethnicities. Capture, KAPU, and The Clause—our student publication outlets—were also activities I participated in that offered me hands-on experience in my journalism major. Being on the sidelines during football games taking photographs/video and writing articles about different events on campus allowed me to find my voice as a student.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
Keep in mind that God wants to use you to expand His Kingdom. He will give you the tools to do His work through your education and experiences. When visiting different universities, try to envision yourself there and choose one you thing you could call home. God will give you peace about your decision. He won’t lead you to a place you won’t thrive in.
How do you spend your free time?
Being around my friends is what fills me with joy. Grabbing a cup of coffee at Copa Vida in Pasadena, watching a movie, cooking for them, or going on unplanned adventures is usually what I am doing when I’m free. During football season you can also find me cheering on our Cougars during their home games.
