Fellowships

Each year, the Department of Biology and Chemistry offers a limited number of fellowships to select undergraduates to participate in the Student-To-Scholar (S2S) program involving laboratory research with a faculty-mentor.

The S2S program immerses students in hands-on research, such as the detection of RNA base pairing using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, or the use of high-performance liquid chromatography to identify density-sensing molecules used by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Working alongside expert faculty, students gain valuable experience and skills that prepare them for regional and national conference presentations, distinguishing them as excellent candidates for prestigious graduate schools. Through relevant undergraduate research opportunities, the S2S research program mentors the next generation of scientists, doctors, and teachers.

Other Scholarships

  • The Robert and Roberta Wright Pre-Medical Scholarship is awarded to a chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or allied health major who has been accepted into APU’s premedical/predental track and has completed at least one CHEM, BIOC, or BIOL class at the 300 level or higher.
  • The Stauffer Scholarship is a competitive award of $2,000-$5,000 for outstanding biochemistry or chemistry majors.
  • The Women of Excellence in Chemistry Scholarship is awarded to one junior female chemistry or biochemistry major who excels in her chemistry courses and demonstrates service to the department.
