Staff Council
The Staff Council is a body of staff members who support the interests of APU staff and facilitate communication among staff, faculty, and the general university community. Staff Council also serves as an advisory board to the administration and Board of Trustees, representing matters of importance to APU staff. The council draws its members from all three areas of staff employment: Campus Resources, Student Affairs, and University Services (view the council roster below).
Message from the Chair
Hello, and welcome from the Staff Council. As a staff employee of seven years in the School of Nursing serving as the Director of Operations, I am honored to serve as Staff Chairperson alongside many other dedicated members.
Over the last couple months, we have worked on clarifying our mission and values. As of August 2023, our mission is to shape the staff experience by creating a healthier work environment. Our guiding principles are C.A.R.E.:
- Channel Staff Voices
- Advocate for Staff through Governance
- Represent Administration to Staff (Ambassador)
- Engage our Community
To deliver on our mission in the ‘23-’24 academic year, we identified the following objectives:
- Provide face-to-face and virtual opportunities to hear from staff
- Participate in university governance task forces and/or committee work
- Create an anonymous process for submitting comments to Staff Council
- Meet monthly with the President and/or VP of Finance and Administration
- Provide staff support through the Encouragement Fund
- Partner with HR on staff initiative implementation and execution
- Conduct short/pulse-like surveys to gauge staff satisfaction
- Create a program for recognition of staff
- Partner with HR to welcome new staff to the university
- Facilitate a staff engagement activity
